Build a portfolio you can explain in an interview

Choose useful projects, describe your contribution and make it easy for an employer to review your work.

Show a few projects clearly

A portfolio does not need dozens of unfinished projects. Start with two or three pieces of work you understand well. A small reliable application with a clear explanation can be more useful than a large template you cannot discuss.

Give each project a short case study

Explain the problem, intended user, your contribution, tools used, a difficult decision and the current limitations. Include a screenshot, a working link when available and a source repository when you have permission to share it. State whether it was coursework, a personal project or paid client work.

Make the live project reviewable

Check that the link works on a phone and a laptop. Provide safe demo data and an explanation of how to try the project. Never publish a real customer's password, API key, invoice or contact list to make the demo look convincing. If login is required, create a limited demonstration account rather than exposing administrator access.

Prepare to talk about the work

You should be able to explain what happens when a user submits a form, how data is validated and one thing you would improve. Be honest about libraries, templates, tutorials and collaborators. Acknowledging help does not erase the work you did.

Before you share your CV

Use an email address you check and a professional file name.
Open every link from the exported PDF.
Describe responsibilities and outcomes without invented numbers.
Ask someone else to check spelling and readability.
Keep identity documents, passwords and your full home address out of a public portfolio.
Make sure your CV, repository and portfolio describe the same experience.
