Your website launch and maintenance checklist

Keep the site useful after launch: renewals, backups, enquiries, updates and meaningful measurement.

Launch is the beginning of the service

A website needs someone responsible for its content, renewals and reliability. Record who owns the domain, which hosting account serves it, where renewal notices go and who can recover access if a staff member leaves.

Check the visitor's journey

Ask a person outside the project to find a service, understand its price or scope and contact the business. Test every important button and confirm that the enquiry reaches the right place. A page can look finished while the business task still fails.

Protect access

Use individual accounts when possible, strong passwords and available multi-factor authentication. Keep recovery information current. Remove access when it is no longer needed. Do not share hosting passwords in group chats or publish secrets in a repository.

Set a maintenance routine

  • Review domain and hosting renewal dates ahead of time.
  • Check backups and practise restoring an appropriate test copy.
  • Apply supported software updates after reviewing and testing them.
  • Check forms and the delivery of important transactional emails.
  • Remove outdated prices, contact information and broken links.
  • Review storage and account limits before they become a disruption.

Measure a business result

Track useful steps such as a visitor reading a guide, clicking a service link and starting an enquiry. Page views are useful context but are not the same as customers or revenue. Be clear about consent and what your analytics does not measure. Avoid collecting passwords, form contents or unnecessary personal information.

Use the evidence

If people find a guide but do not see the next step, improve the relevant call to action. If enquiries arrive but do not become projects, review your response time, offer and qualification process. Test one change at a time and compare a sensible period rather than assuming every small fluctuation is meaningful.

Keep the relationship clear

Agree which support is included, how extra work is approved and what renewal covers. A sustainable website service combines useful technology with understandable ongoing responsibilities.
